Unfortunately, there are no studies to my knowledge of Yin Yoga that prove or disprove its physiological efficacy. If there are no studies, then we must evaluate the practice through analogy and reasoning: are there other investigations that use similar techniques to Yin Yoga that can help us understand what might be happening? Fortunately, yes there are. While these are not the highest levels of proof we would love to see, they do lend credence to the claims many people make about Yin Yoga and matches their own personal experiences. Initiated by Peter after he listened to Bernie’s last talk with J, this probing conversation was an opportunity to clarify points of agreement and hash out some areas of departure. They discuss whether the spine is primarily a source or stability or mobility, what poses do to our tissues or patterns, and the intents and purposes that forge a deeper understanding.

The conversation begins with Bernie talking about yin yoga and the difference between stretching and stressing the body’s tissues. He talks about how this practice can stress the deeper layers of the body, which is beneficial to the health of our tissues.

YIN YOGA & MEDITATION TRAININGS
Yin is In! Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you
