The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga – Second Edition!

The first edition of The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga was a follow-on from my first book, YinSights. As time goes on, we learn new things and develop new perspectives. Years after writing YinSights, I felt the need to expand upon what I had written, to include more about the practice of Yin Yoga and de-emphasize the general philosophy and history of yoga. In the second edition, this evolution continues apace. You will find more about the practice of Yin Yoga, the use of props, targeted areas, and much more:

  • Over 35% more text and information
  • Over 230 photos, twice as many as before, and over 40 illustrations
  • New descriptions of the postures, including several new variations and poses
  • Photos showing different body types
  • Props! Lots of props and discussion on when to use them and why
  • Updated information on the science of Yin Yoga
  • A wider variety of yang counterposes

Even if you already own a copy of the first edition, the new second edition may prove to be a valuable addition to your yoga library.

(And, does it matter?)

Yoga teachers love to tell students how to breathe, but no two students and no two rib cages are exactly the same, and this may affect the optimal way for you to breathe. Human variation shows up in the size of our rib cages and in the angle of the ribs. The more horizontal the ribs, the more you may rely upon belly breathing: the more vertical the ribs, the more you may tend to be a chest breather. Which is the correct strategy? The answer is, as always, “It depends!” It depends upon the person and the intention of their practice. No single strategy will work for every body…

YIN YOGA & MEDITATION TRAININGS

Yin is In! Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you
